This document is from a series of Missouri court cases concerning David Carson during his time in Platte County, Missouri. It reads, “State of Missouri County of Platte In the Platte Circuit Court of November term AD 1840 In the Platte circuit court David Carson plaintiff states that he is the legal owner of a bond against the defendants Ira Norris, William H Spratt, Pease Morris, and Jeremiah H Spratt to the following effect Martinsville September 20th, 1839 $500.00 on or before the first of May next one or other of us promise to pay David Carson the sum of five hundred dollars bearing ten percent from the twenty-fifth day of December next for value recd of him as witness our hands and seals.”
It is then signed by ra Norris, William H Spratt, Pease Morris, and Jeremiah H Spratt as well as J.S. Thomas the attorney for David Carson who says, “Yet the debt remains unpaid therefore he demands judgment for his due and damages for the detention thereof together with costs.”
