Description

This document records the estate payment to heirs of David Carson's Missouri estate. It comes from a series of North Carolina and Missouri documents in which relatives of David Carson claimed ownership of his Missouri estate as it was being settled in the wake of his death. The document reads, "Received of Lycurgus Shepard Late Sheriff of Platte County Missouri the Sum of One Hundred ninety Seven 58/100s Dollars in full of the distribution Share of Robert Carson, John T. Hawthorn, & wife,Thomjas J. Carson, Andrew J. Carson, Edwin Carson, William Carson, Francis Bryan & wife, of the real Estate of David Carson Decd Sold by order of the Platte Circuit Court at its Sept Term 1854, which they are entitled to as heirs at Law of Said Deceased." It lists those who received part of this distributed payment. The document is signed by each of the heirs, Robert Carson, John T. Hawthorn, Andrew J. Carson, Edwin J. Carson, William Carson, Francis Bryant and By Matthew Carson their attorney, as well as J.G. Spratt attest on September 30th, 1859. Beneath this, James Wagg Clerk of the Court of Pleas and quarter Sessions for the County of Ashe and S. P. Wagg D.C confirm this estate payment. Lastly, John Reves, Chairman of the court of Pleas and and quarter sessions for Ashe County wrote an incomplete sentence, likely followed on another page.
