Description
This document is a citizenship document for Smith Carson which states, "I Smith Carson a native of Antrim County in Ireland of the age of forty-two and now or lately owing allegiance to his Majesty the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain + Ireland Do hereby declare that it is bonafide my intention to become a citizen of the United States & do renounce – all allegiance + fidelity To any foreign Prince, potential state or sovereignty whatever and particularly to the said – the king of the United Kingdom Of Great Britain + Ireland." It is signed for Smith Carson for himself and his family in the April term but is dated September 5th, 1830. The document also notes that Jeremiah Gibson + – W. Winston confirm that Smith Carson "has resided within the United States five years + upwards of one year and that during that time he has behaved as a man of good moral character attached to the principles of the constitution of the United States and well disposed to the good order." It is also signed by Tho T Armstrong clk.
