Title
May 19, 1856 Letitia Carson Response, two pages
Description
Two pages long, this document details Letitia Carson's response concerning her second lawsuit against Greenberry Smith. Her response was signed by her lawyer, Andrew Thayer on May 19th, 1856. On the first page, Letitia responds that she is not indebted to the estate of David Carson in the sum of $500 or any other sum for receiving or keeping said cattle from 1845 until the sale. This page also contains the oath taken by Letitia's lawyer Andrew Thayer, swearing that he has read the reply and can verify its truth because he knows the contents.
The second page is brief and includes the last sentence of Andrew Thayer's oath, saying that he makes this affidavit on account of Letitia because she is absent from said county, currently living in Douglas county. It is then signed by Jas H. Slater, clerk of the District Court of the Oregon Territory on May 19th, 1856.
