Description An account of the resource Three pages long. This document provides a list of the stock, agricultural implements, and household furniture belonging to the estate of David Carson, as well as their appraised value, as decided by Jacob Modie and David D. Davis appraisers for the Oregon Probate Court. This first page lists David Carson's belongings including steer, oxen, heifers, calves, a bull, cows, hogs, a horse, wagon, log chains, gun, pot metal, cupboard ware, two trunks, bedding, books, one clock, watch, and one spade. The total of these belongings is equal to $1446.50. Many of the items listed here are later seen in the sales that Greenberry Smith organizes. The appraisal is continued onto the next page. The second page of the document continues the appraisal from the previous page and adds a few more items including: ½ doz chains, Tools & bench screw, and 4 furkins 1 cask & a bucket. These items alone are valued at $16, added to the previous total the entire value of David Carson's appraised estate is $1462.50. After this section, there are another several items including one shovel, one harrow, one calf, one plow, one thermometer, and a half in a potato patch. The total of these items is appraised at $76.30 bringing the entire total up to $1538.80. The document is signed by the appraisers, Jacob Modie and David D. Davis, and A.G. Hovey, the first clerk of Benton county, who acted as such for the first circuit and state courts held in the district. On the last of three pages, this document continues the appraisal of David Carson's estate after his passing. The document lists an overview of David Carson's estate including the number of animals he had, his tools, and other belongings now under Greenberry Smith's administration. This inventory is signed by John Wiles and Andrew Carson on December 4th, 1852. The document then goes on to address Greenberry Smith's leadership and is signed by him three days later on December 7th, 1852.
