Description

This document is a subpoena written from Jas. H. Slater Clerk of District Court of Benton County to Greenberry Smith during the second lawsuit by Letitia Carson. Slater writes, "You are hereby required to be and appear before the District Court in and for said county O.T. on the first day of the next Term thereof to be holden at the courthouse in said county on the first Monday of October AD 1855 to answer the complaint of Lutishia Carson or judgment by default will be taken against you – Notice is hereby given that the Plaintiff will take judgment for the sum of two thousand dollars if defendant fails to answer said complaint. Hereof fail not at your peril And of this writ, the Sheriff of the said county will make due service and return the same with his doings heron on the first day of said Term of Court. It is signed by Slater on September 22nd, 1854."
