Title
Sept. 19, 1989 Friends of the Golden West Hotel Commemoration
Description
This photo was taken September 18, 1989, at Kathryn Bogle's SE Tibbetts Street home in Portland, commemorating the formation of the Friends of the Golden West Hotel. This was during the time that Kathryn and Dr. Zybach became good friends, initially based on their common interest in Oregon Black History. Missing from the photo is co-founder, Michael “Chappie” Grice, but Kathryn, Dr. Zybach, and representatives of Portland Public Schools, Oregon Historical Society, and Central City Concern are shown shortly after formally developing the common objectives for the new organization. In the early 2000s, Will Bennet rejuvenated the Friends on a number of social media sites, and then on February 2, 2022, under the leadership of Kim Moreland and others, one of our major objectives was finally achieved, and the Golden West Hotel was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. Dr. Zybach believes the photographer was a maid that worked for Kathryn on a weekly basis.
