Description

This 1844 document is a legal document from the court in which David Carson applied for citizenship. It records his process and success in becoming a citizen of the United States. It reads, "Monday October 21st 1844
Monday October 21st 1844 Court meets pursuant to adjournment present the same judge as on yesterday And now here comes David Carson and makes application to become a citizen of the United State and the Court being satisfied that he had fully complied with the Acts of Congress in such cases made and provided. The said David Carson now here takes the final Oath to support the Constitution of the United States and otherwise to declare himself as a good and peaceable citizen thereof and that he now renounces and abjures all allegiances and fidelity to every foreign Prince, Potentate, State or Sovereignty whatever and more particularly to Victoria Queen of Great Brittain [sic] and Ireland of whom he was heretofore a Subject."
