Title

South Myrtle Creek Map

Description

A map of South Myrtle Creek, where Letitia lived after being forced off of her Benton County homestead. This map was found in Bob Zybach's collection of materials alongside George Abdill's 1967 article in the Umpqua Trapper, which discussed Letitia for one of the first times in contemporary history. The map shows Tish Creek, where Letitia lived in Douglas County, Oregon and where she was granted her homestead as the first Black woman to own land in Oregon through the Homestead Act of 1862.
