In the foreground, a boy, possibly Merle Moore, is seated against a large tree stump. A felling ax can be seen embedded on the stump. The background is devoid of most trees probably the result of clearing. Although this image dates nearly 40 years after Letitia moved from the Soap Creek Valley, it paints a portrait of the life of Soap Creek Valley settlers in a time period similar to, adjacent to Letitia's.
