Title

Undated Excerpt from Oregon history book, Chapter 14, 348-355

Description

This excerpt from a larger Oregon history details the Oregon trail journey for a few early traverlers, including David Carson. It directly quotes from Stephen Staat’s address to the Oregon Pioneer’s Association in 1877 and Sarah Cummins’ autobiography in 1914. About David Carson it says, "A day or two later this small group was hailed by six others driving about 150 head of stock into the valley. David Carson, fondly called “Uncle Davy,” was their leader. He has been a fellow traveler from Missouri and was an old mountaineer with more than ordinary endurance and courage. The young men accompanying him were Stephen Staats, Johnny Moore, Allen Minor and the two Smith brothers (probably Simeon and Jennings)." (page, 350).
