Title
Sept 7, 2013, Roxanne, Scott Mcgrew, Gwen Carr, Jane Kirkpatrick, and Jerry Kirkpatrick at Letitia Carson's grave
Description
A photograph from September 7th, 2013 of Roxanne, Scott Mcgrew, Gwen Carr, Jane Kirkpatrick, and Jerry Kirkpatrick next to Letitia Carson's grave in Stephens Cemetery. Letitia's gravestone rests in Stephens Cemetery near Myrtle Creek in Douglas County, Oregon. Benjamin Stephens had a Land Claim nearby and the cemetery is named for him and was on his property. He likely had a relation to Letitia and Jack, giving her a major tombstone and a prominent position in his graveyard. Her gravestone is muddy and covered in moss, dirt, and pine needles. It is 125 years old in this photo and wear has broken it into three pieces. At the top is a carved decorative symbol, beneath it reads, Letitia Carson, died Feb. 18th, 1888. Aged 85 years, 10 months, 18 days. Below is a faded quote that begins, "no pain, no grief, no -- can reach the peaceful sleeper here."
