Description
This document is written by William Carson as he appoints power to his attorney Mathew Carson and claims a connection to David Carson's Missouri estate. It comes from a series of North Carolina and Missouri documents in which relatives of David Carson claimed ownership of his Missouri estate as it was being settled in the wake of his death. He writes, "Know all men by these presents that I William Carson of the County of Surry and State of North Carolina have this day constituted and appointed and by these presents do make constitute and appoint Mathew Carson of Ashe County and State of North Carolina my Legal Attorney in law and in fact to demand collect Sue for and receive and receipt in my name to collect and receive all Sums of money and effects property personal and real and all dues that may be coming to me from the Estate of David Carson deceased late of the County of Platte in the State of Missouri and the money debts and property and effects is now in the hand of John Robinson in the last aforesaid county and State or due to him as such Administrator the said money and effects I am entitled to as son of James Carson deceased, and Legal heir to David Carson Decd hereby notifying and confirming all and every thing that my Said attorney Mathew Carson Shall or may Legally do in and about the promises as fully and So effectually as If I myself were personally present and assenting thereunto. In testimony whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and affixed by Seal this 3rd day of April 1857." It is signed by William Carson in presence of F. V. Hamlin, as well as John H. Dobson Clk, F.V. Hamlin D.C, DM Cooper D Chair pro tem, and WC Remington, Recorder. It is dated April 3rd, 1857.
