Title
1990 Benjamin Stephens Headstone at Stephen Cemetery
Description
A 1990 photograph of Benjamin L. Stephens' gravestone. It is a tall marble pillar that reads, "Benjamin L. Stephens, Born Aug. 24, 1820." The rest of the pillar is cut off by the surrounding fencing. Benjamin Stephens had a Land Claim nearby and the cemetery is named for him and was on his property. He likely had a relation to Letitia and Jack, giving her a major tombstone and a prominent position in his graveyard. The bottom of the stone reads, "A Sleep in Jesus Blessed Sleep From Which none ever Wakes to Weep." He died June 18th, 1896.
