Fort Yamhill Block House Description An account of the resource In 1856, the U.S. Army built the Fort Yamhill Blockhouse at Fort Yamhill, near present day Valley Junction and Grand Ronde. It was built to limit encounters and conflicts between Indigenous people and settlers near the Reservations. It stood at the border between Grand Ronde Reservation and privately owned farmland. It was not like other blockhouses built as a refuge for whites during conflict with Indigenous people. Instead, it was a guardian of the reservation and prevented conflict. It was decommissioned in 1866. Beef cattle near Camp Adair, Oregon Description An account of the resource This is a photograph of the Oregon State University Beef Cattle Ranches in the Soap Creek Valley in Benton County, Oregon on the land where Camp Adair previously was. Oregon State University acquired the Camp Adair land after Camp Adair was dismantled in 1946. A portion of this land was the former site of Letitia and David Carson's Benton County Homestead. While it is unclear if that is the land shown in this photograph, it is known that Letitia and David Carson's land became part of the OSU Beef Cattle Ranches. Image featuring a town alongside a riverbed. In the center of the river are several islands and a figure in a canoe; the river bends in two directions as it winds along forests into the distance. To the left is the settlement with a cleared path and a man on an ox-drawn cart. One of the buildings has a waterwheel; several of the trees have been felled and their stumps are visible.
