This document is from a series of Missouri court cases concerning David Carson during his time in Platte County, Missouri. It reads,
“State of Missouri
County of Platte
Recognizance
We the undersigned Nicholas E. Broaddus and Arthur Bull acknowledge ourselves indebted to David Carson in the sum of twenty dollars each (upon this condition be void) Where as Nicholas E. Broaddus James H Bullard & William D Bullard Plaintiffs in the above suit and David Carson Defendant now if on such appeal the judgment be given against the appellants, and they shall satisfy such judgment, or if together with the costs of the appellants, the recognizance shall be void. Taken and acknowledged before me this 21st day of September 1839.”
It is signed by Charles Wells, Justice of the Peace, Nicholas E. Broaddus and Arthur Bull.
